Opened in 1939, the Teatro Carlos Gomes, located in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, has become one of the main tourist spots in the region. Known for its historical architecture, its events and cultural activities, the place represents the history of Blumenau and provides Vale do Itajaí with moments of pleasure and relaxation, as well as learning opportunities.

In order to compile the existing and current heritage conditions and save them for historical collection, the 3D scanning of the site was completed this May. The novelty was the use of a new equipment in the city, supplied and applied exclusively by the company WRodacki , which did a voluntary work in the theater. The equipment used was the 3D Laser Scanner, which allows millimeter precision laser measurement for documentation and research in 3D.

According to engineer Camila Kleis Rodacki, with the scan it was possible to capture accurate and detailed information from the location for historical filing. “As it is a historical heritage, the documentation of each detail in an exact and agile way was essential. With the 3D Scanner the accuracy of measurements and details was achieved in a millimeter way. In total, in four days, all the necessary information was collected ”, informs Camila.

“The voluntary performance of this work carried out exclusively by the company WRodacki, with the 3D Scanner technology, was extremely important for the history of Blumenau, as this documentation immortalizes the architecture, interior and the facade of the theater with the technology. This record of historical heritage allows the reconstruction, expansion or even restoration in the future of the Carlos Gomes theater ”, pointed out the Secretary of Tourism and Leisure of Blumenau and president of the Carlos Gomes Theater, Ricardo Stodieck.

Camila also points out that the 3D Scanner has direct and indirect advantages that range from minimizing risks, to reducing field visits. "After measuring the location and with the complete record, it is possible to use the digital file for new measurements in the office, without the need to return to the location, also allowing the development of new projects for the heritage".

Historical heritage

Since its foundation, the Carlos Gomes Theater has undergone changes imposed by the population and social development of Blumenau. With the growth of the city, the theater began to carry out educational, cultural and artistic support activities, thus transforming itself into a center that helps the cultural development of the region and, with that, the need to realize the historical collection was seen. the location.

According to engineer Marcelo Rodacki, “the historical collection is a way of valuing the history of the city, thus ensuring that historic buildings remain in our records without loss of information. With the documentation of the existing conditions of the theater, it will be possible, in the future, to carry out the restoration, expansion or even reconstruction of the venue ”.

Rodacki comments that the accomplishment of this work was an incredible experience, since it is a historical heritage of the Vale do Itajaí region. “It was gratifying to be able to provide this documentation to the city. It is a construction that is very admired by everyone and it is a pleasure to document this history ”.

The engineer says that the work in the theater lasted about four days, counting on data capture and processing. "At this time it was possible to obtain a cloud of complete and detailed points of the heritage". Altogether, 171 scenes were used on the site, that is, 171 theater points were scanned, with 34 external points and 137 internal points, reaching an average precision of 5mm.

The 3D laser scanner

Manufactured in Germany, by the company Faro Technologies, the 3D laser scanner allows measurements of structures to be made quickly, simply and accurately, with reduction of errors, productivity and efficiency. The product is a cloud of points and each point has an x, y, z coordinate, that is, it delivers a 3D digital model that enables numerous applications, from the creation of a project based on original features, documentary memory, to expertise.

The technique has already been used in Brazil on several occasions, for example, at the Imperial Museum in Petrópolis, for historical collection, at the National Museum in Rio de Janeiro, for expertise and, in the viaduct that gave way at the marginal Pinheiros, in São Paulo, for survey of the existing structure and, recently, it was used in the fire of Notre Dame Cathedral, which in 2015 was scanned and today, after the fire, this file provides material rich in information and dimensional accuracy for the reconstruction of the site.

Some benefits of the 3D laser scanner are: increased production potential, reduced site visits, complete environment registration, risk minimization, agility in the field, interoperability, data quality, reduced rework, reduced field staff and elimination of activities with no added value.
